The Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN) is pleased to announce the appointment of Allegra Spender to the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) commencing 14 August 2017, succeeding Jacqui Jones.

Announcing Allegra’s appointment, ABCN Chair Helen Zimmerman, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Navitas said, ‘Allegra’s diverse experience and insights from roles within the corporate, non-profit, private and public sectors, will guide us on our journey to further improve opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds’.

‘In considering this appointment, the Board was determined to ensure the excellent reputation and impact of ABCN is continued and enhanced.  We are confident Allegra will maintain the qualities that have underpinned ABCN’s success and also see ABCN extend its reach and impact’, Zimmerman said.

Allegra, well known to many through her work as former Managing Director with iconic Australian fashion label Carla Zampatti, and Chair of Sydney Renewable Power Company, looks forward to joining the ABCN team, based in Sydney. ‘I am delighted to contribute to a not for profit organisation focused on social change through the collective impact of its corporate members,’ she said. ‘Sustainability and social impact have long been important to me, and I look forward to collaborating with ABCN’s stakeholders to increase the positive impact made on the lives of disadvantaged young Australians’.

In making the announcement, ABCN’s Board acknowledges and commends the work of outgoing CEO, Jacqui Jones. “Jacqui has been with ABCN for over ten years and joined us at a time when ABCN was new and finding its feet. Her dedication and superior relationship building skills have allowed ABCN to grow into an organisation that delivers strong, sustainable partnerships between business and high needs schools. Last year Jacqui’s work saw over 5,000 corporate volunteers mentor and support 5,649 students from disadvantaged backgrounds.  We owe much to her legacy,’ said Zimmerman.

Jacqui Jones said about the appointment of Allegra Spender, ‘Allegra was a standout candidate, and I am confident I leave the fabulous ABCN team in safe hands as I embark on this next chapter of my professional life. I wish ABCN ongoing success under Allegra’s leadership’.
