Spark is a one-on-one, basic reading and literacy program for primary school children who require assistance in developing their reading and comprehension skills. It provides an opportunity for sustained conversations in English, encourages the student personally and has a powerful impact on the student’s enjoyment of reading, building confidence and self-esteem. Students are matched with two mentors who alternate their visits to the school for the weekly one-on-one sessions.
1:2:1 is a basic numeracy and counting program for primary school children who require assistance with their development and understanding of basic mathematical skills. It also incorporates a critical element of socialisation and confidence building, with mentors acting as positive and consistent adult role models for the participating students. Participating students have been identified and selected by their school before being matched with a mentor for weekly sessions.
