Where are they now? – Michael Mankin

For Michael Mankin, who participated in the ABCN GOALS program in 2006, the experience was nothing short of enriching.

Michael Mankin

Michael attended Lurnea High School near Liverpool in South West Sydney, a low socio-economic status (SES) community where 67% of families at the school are in the bottom quarter of wealth distribution in Australia. Lurnea High School is also a culturally diverse community where the student population is made up of more than 38 different ethnic groups.  As one of ABCN’s inaugural partner schools, Lurnea High has supported ABCN programs since its inception.

Michael credits his GOALS mentor, David Miles, formerly from JP Morgan, for inspiring his choice to pursue a career in finance. He notes “…the insight he gave me was enough to aspire for a career in finance”. After undertaking a Bachelor of Business and Commerce Applied Finance degree at the University of Western Sydney, Michael now works as a customer solutions officer for Citi, one of ABCN’s coalition of members.

It was Michael’s regular visits to the city and various corporate venues during the GOALS program which also helped him gain valuable insight to the business world. As a result of his experience, Michael is now a mentor in the ABCN RISE program with Citi and Blacktown Boys High School. He states “The ABCN program helped me gain an invaluable insight; giving back some of my time would be the least I can do.”
